Boat and Gulet Tours

Kalkan is located on one of the most beautiful parts of Turkey's Turquoise Coast and at least one day at sea should definitely be a part of everyone's holiday.

Boat trips can be arranged through tour agencies or at the Kalkan harbour for daily and extended trips. Daily boat trips leave the Kalkan harbour around 10 AM, so make sure you are down there before that and you can choose which boat you'd like. Don't forget your snorkeling gear (can be bought in town).

Gulets (wooden Mediterranean-type Turkish yachts) can be arranged through tour agencies.

Some trips explore the many beautiful bays, beaches and sea caves along the coast near Kalkan while other tours go farther to gorgeous (and not-to-be-missed) Kekova, one of the most beautiful areas of the Turkish coast. Daily tours to the Kekova area are popular - these go overland to the village of Uçagiz (to save time getting there), where you board your glass-bottom boat.

All these trips include swim stops and Mediterranean Turkish meals are usually served on board as well (usually included in the price, drinks are extra). Fishing trips and romantic moonlight cruises can be arranged also.

I highly recommend a trip to Kekova, the scenery and swimming is incredible.

There are many sea caves that can be explored along the coast near Kalkan, daily boat trips sometimes stop at these. The photo to the right is of "Wild Pigeon Cave" where the birds come to roost above cool spring-fed water. Another popular cave to swim in is the "Blue Cave", a large cave in near darkness except for the indescribable brilliant phosphorescent-blue of the water caused by sunlight shining up through the surface of the water.

If you'd like to visit the Greek island of Meis (Castellorizo), it is only a 45 minute boat ride from the nearby town of Kas, which can be reached quickly and cheaply by dolmus from Kalkan.
